Whew! Third time lucky, finished it this time.Never before I have read book which is so incomprehensible and confusing and at the same time so engrossing. It took me about halfway through the book to get any foothold about the plot which by the way was slippery at best. Its like the author is giving you the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle at random but no original image to know where to put the pieces. It was the characters that kept me glued - makes GOT look like a nuclear family :) - everyone of them so engaging though Kruppe takes the crown.
Just keep reading until the plot starts to makes sense and the end is rewarding.
Great book. 5 stars even though its a very difficult read.
Spartan Gold
Pretty much typical lost treasure standard fare, nothing much to write about. Characters were bland, repeatedly getting into trouble and making last minute escapes which seemed far fetched even for a Clive Cussler book. I don't think i have liked any Clive Cussler book since he started co-authoring except maybe Treasure Of Khan.
King of Thorns
Brilliant. Better in every aspects from its predecessor. Seriously Jorg makes prince joffrey from game of thrones look like a pussy. You can't love him but you can't stop yourself from rooting for this guy to achieve whatever he wants in any way possible. The switch in timelines was great with both the plots very engaging. Jorg's insights and thoughts about the mundane things in life are the little gems scattered throughout the book.
Highly recommended.
Prince of Thorns
Great debut by a new author. This is unlike anything I have ever - starting out as fantasy then delving into sci-fi, post apocalypse. Just had a few minor problems for me though - apart from Jorg no other characters are developed and I like my world building in fantasy novels which incidentally is not required but I would have liked to read a bit more about this world. This book just races along nicely. A word of caution - the book has its share of violence definitely not for faint hearted as the main character is just 13 and killing, raping comes easy for him - its a harsh world.
Must read for grim dark fantasy readers.
The Oath of the Vayuputras
After a good build up from the last two books this one lost its steam. The ending seemed a bit forced. Decent work but a lot more was expected.
